If you only buy two writing books (you’re already buying Strunk & White’s Elements of Style, remember), Self-Editing for Fiction Writers needs to be the second one.

The books we’ve been looking at so far have been books about the craft of writing and how to improve it. Building Believable Characters is a little different. It’s a little bit of a craft book, but it’s more of a sourcebook or a reference book.

If you’re a writer, this book is a must have. Not joking. If you’re a writer and you don’t own this, you need to go out and buy it today. Strunk and White’s Elements of Style gives advice on active voice, sentence formation, commonly used words that would be better off unused and common mistakes made by writers.
